Ruby Wedding Anniversary on a Canal Boat

canal boatTo celebrate mum and dad’s Ruby wedding anniversary, my sister and I arranged for the family to go on a canal boat for the day.  Thanks to my sisters super organisation skills, the day was a real success.

We headed over to the Barbridge Marina where we were greeted by someone who was ready to show Jay and brother-in-law the ropes on how to navigate the boat. Before we knew it, we were heading off on our own and towards Nantwich.

I’d never actually been on a canal boat but I was completely taken with it and thanks to the clouds breaking up, the sun started to make our day even brighter.  Our round trip only consisted of approx. 12 miles but we were out on the boat from 9.45am to 4.30pm.  At lunch time, we moored up and tucked into the fabulous buffet which my sister had organised.  We cracked open the moet and raised a toast to their 40th Wedding Anniversary.

My sister and I were a little apprehensive if mum and dad would like it but like all of us, within moment, we were all relaxed and just sitting back and enjoying the ride.  The scenery was breath taking and after being manic at work and 28 weeks pregnant, I was grateful to just allow my head full of thoughts to empty and simple take the day for what it was, spending quality time with family and escaping the rat race world that I find myself so easily sucked into.

For those who have not tried this or if you’re looking to explore somewhere different, then I highly recommend trying this http://www.midwayboats.co.uk/canalboathirecheshire.htm

Happy Anniversary Mum & Dad, big Love Nicola x
